Salute to the forever respected (Kyocera)Mr. Kazuo Inamori.
In December 1958, Kazuo Inamori, who was then the director of the Special Magnetics Section of Matsukaze Industry, resigned out of dissatisfaction with the denial of him by lay leaders, and decided to start his own business.
Kazuo Inamori's idea is very simple, to create a place with enough free space to give full play to his talents.
Although there is no capital and no equipment, the seven partners who have shared weal and woe are still willing to help each other, even cut their pinky fingers and press the blood seal to swear, "We are united, and we will surely achieve the cause of society and the world, as evidenced by the blood seal. "
Fortunately, after the introduction of the former leader, some investors took a fancy to Kazuo Inamori's character and technology. On April 1, 1959, Kyocera was officially established in a dilapidated warehouse.
At the celebration banquet, Kazuo Inamori frankly stated his lofty ideals:
"We will definitely become the No. 1 company in Haramachi. After becoming No. 1 in Haramachi, our goal is to be No. 1 in Nishikyo. Then No. 1 in Nakagyo, No. 1 in Kyoto, No. 1 in Japan, and finally No. 1 in the world!"
Although it has lofty aspirations, Kyocera has just been established after all, with limited equipment and personnel, and even some employees are unfamiliar with technology. Even the employees did not take Kazuo Inamori's words seriously.
In order to respond to customer orders, Kyocera suffered a lot. Kazuo Inamori often has to lead his employees to work all night, and everyone is exhausted. Some people even think that such a desperate work rhythm can only last for a week at most.
But Kazuo Inamori didn't have time to think about the rhythm. Kyocera started from a low starting point and started late. He was almost an amateur player who would not pose a threat to his opponents. He could only choose to do his best.
Fortunately, Kyocera did work hard enough, and even though the workload was exaggerated, everyone still persevered. In just one year, Kyocera achieved a good result of 26 million yen and a net profit of 3 million yen, and its sales and profits doubled in the second year.
However, when the company expands and the number of employees increases, this method of working overtime until late at night can no longer be sustained.
At the end of April 1961, 11 employees who had been on the job for one year broke into Kazuo Inamori's office, demanding a "salary increase and bonus", and even wrote a blood letter and resigned together if they did not agree.
The demands of these new employees are indeed reasonable. At that time, Kyocera managers were workaholics around the clock and had no concept of time. New employees were forced to work overtime until late every day, and sometimes even gave up rest days.
As a "miserable" entrepreneur who also relies on wages to support his family, Kazuo Inamori tried to reason at first. However, his persuasion was regarded by the vigorous young people as "the capitalists' grand words to deceive us".
The negotiations were deadlocked and lasted for three days and three nights. In the end, the helpless Kazuo Inamori could only make one last blog:
"If you have the courage to leave the company, why don't you have the courage to believe me? I am willing to gamble with my life to run this company for everyone's benefit! If I betray you, you will stab me with a knife!"
This sentence moved the other party and finally ended the storm.
Kazuo Inamori, who had ended the negotiation, couldn't understand that a small company that had just been established for three years had to carry the sustenance of young employees for their entire lives. Such a heavy burden?
However, Kazuo Inamori soon discovered that, even if the current model can be successful, it needs to be built on the basis of sacrificing the interests of employees. The most basic purpose of the company's operation must be the happiness of all employees.
Subsequently, "pursuing the material and spiritual happiness of all employees" has become Kyocera's management philosophy. After that, the phrase "contribute to the progress and development of mankind and society" is added.
Under such thinking, Kyocera became a Fortune 500 company in just ten years.
